Gary
L. Edwards - see Wigwam G
Gary
L. Edwards started writing at a very young age while still
in elementary school. Gary's work was first published in
1995. Since then, his work has been published more than
one thousand times in over one hundred different poetry
journals and magazines; publications as diverse as Poetic
License, Homespring Press, The Aurorean, Fearless, Crimson
Rivers, Smile, Outer Darkness, Poet's Review, Poetic Page,
Black Creek Review, Lucid Moon, Lucidity, Maelstrom, Poets
At Work, Northern Stars and the list goes on and on. Gary
has won more than one hundred first place awards for his
writing, not only for poetry, but for short stories as
well. Gary was voted Poet Of The Year in Homespring Press
for 1998 and won the same title in Poetic License in 2001.
For three years Gary was the editor of his own poetry
column entitled Poet's Corner at a newspaper in his area,
publishing his own work along with the work of local
poets. Gary's column thrived as a favorite among the
readers of The Mill Creek Peddler. He also supplied the
paper with articles and short stories from time to time.
The paper has since ceased publication.
In 1996 Gary published his first chapbook, SOMEWHERE LOST
IN TIME, and in 1997, TASTE MY FIRE. Both books were
published by HAYDEN PUBLICATIONS. In 1999 Gary
published FACES THAT I WEAR, published by BOOKS BY DESIGN
PUBLICATIONS. FACES THAT I WEAR received rave reviews in
various poetry journals. Gary has not published a chapbook
since then, but has two books in the making for 2005;
FARCES, FLOPS AND FOOLISHNESS, a book of whimsical, funny
verse and A SUDDEN DARKNESS, a book of short horror
stories. Gary writes something for everyone, provoking
every emotion from teardrops to laughter. Gary has always
supplied his own artwork for his chapbooks and plans to
continue doing so.
Gary also busies himself holding down a full-time, forty
hour a week job at a local company called Knouse Foods.
Gary enjoys drawing, gardening, music of all kinds and
nostalgic television, though he admits that his favorite
pastime is writing. He resides as a bachelor in
Gerrardstown, West Virginia, living in the cozy little
country house where he was raised by his grandparents.

Book Review: THE COLLECTED WORKS OF GREY
OWL
(Three complete and unabridged Canadian Classics).
- The Men of the Last Frontier
- Pilgrims of the Wild
- Sajo and the Beaver People
Born Archibald Stansfeld Belandy, the son of an
aristocrat, in Hastings, England. He emigrated to Canada in 1906 to live among the Native people. He returned to England to serve in the First World War, was wounded, and returned to Canada to live with the Ojibway in northern Ontario, where he 'adopted' the name
Wa-sha-quon-asin, or Grey Owl. Best known for his work as one of Canada's first conservationists, Grey Owl was also a canoeist, a packer, a guide, a fur trapper, a naturalist, and of course a master storyteller. His writings have delighted readers worldwide since 1929.
Dear White Sparrow Readers, I have learned more about Canada, Red and White, through Grey Owl's eyes, than I think I did in all my days sitting in history classes!
If you are a true seeker of Canada's history, and of the Native Indian ways, this book is a recommended must. If you wish to
learn to what lengths a man will go to stay alive, let the words of Grey Owl tell you!
There are no commercials to contend with! No need for pretty pictures to keep your mind from wandering. If you desire to read about true heroes...those sacrificed and those spared, then dare to walk in the footsteps of Grey Owl. He will make your troubles seem small! He will keep you on the edge of your seat as he walks you on the edge of this earthly life!
Here briefly, is a paragraph or two from this gripping
storyteller!!
(The man nearest the edge of the cliff stood leaning on his rifle, gazing out over the tilled fields, towards the city beyond. His grey eyes were narrow, and stamped at the corners with crowsfeet, hallmark of one who has peered into the glare of a thousand suns, and faced the blizzards of many winters. His face, tanned to the colour of leather, was hollow-cheeked, ascetic almost. Once his glance strayed involuntarily to the panorama of forest that lay spread out behind him, but his eyes again sought the distant city, as though drawn by some powerful attraction.
The other, a tall spare man, his long-black hair confined at the temples by a buckskin band, and with the vigorous features and calm bearing of an Indian, regarded not the city, but stood motionless, his gaze roaming over the sweep and swell of the wilderness; and at his feet were the charred sticks of a fire, now extinguished. He had the air of one who waits.
Presently he turned and touched the white man on the shoulder, and pointing to the west, spoke in his native language.
"The sun is setting, my ears are filled with the sound of falling trees; it is enough. See! the shadows lengthen; let us go."
And as the slow wind of evening passed over the land, there seemed to come an answering murmur from the hosts of the forest, saying, "Let us go: let us go."
And the concerted waving movement of the myriad tree tops in the breeze likened them to an immense and restless concourse, gathered together for some great migration, awaiting but the signal for departure.
For a moment longer the frontiersman stood irresolute, and then with a gesture of finality, his face set in the stern lines of one who has made a sweeping and unalterable decision, he assumed his pack and turning his back forever on the haunts of man, followed the Indian, now already on his way).

Through My Mother's
Words (for Leon)
“To
all my readers, I am very pleased and honoured to bring to
you a very ‘special guest’, Storie-Jean Agapith!”
“It is with Storie’s permission that I share a
very brief glimpse of one Native American woman’s
story!” “Or,
should I say stories?”
Storie-Jean
Agapith, was born and raised on the Colville Indian
Reservation in the State of Washington.
In December 1971 she was blessed with “Leon”,
her one and only child.
Storie lived out every parent’s worst nightmare.
In 1997, Leon was killed in a motor vehicle
accident just twelve days prior to his twenty-sixth
birthday!
Her
Leon didn’t go out of this world, though, without
leaving behind a gift for his mother, his son, named
‘Seth’! I
am certain that Leon must have whispered to his son,
“you will learn of wisdom and simple truths ‘through
my mother’s words’!”
Because in 1998, Storie began to write children’s
stories. By
putting these down on paper, and via the Internet, she is
continuing her tradition of telling them to Leon and
leaving a trail of values for Seth, and a path for
numerous children to follow.
Today,
Storie is a fifty-two year old disabled Native American
Indian woman who is striving to overcome her disabilities.
Her greatest wish is to have her stories touch the
heart of many, many children around the globe.
Please
be sure to go to Young Spirit Tales – Wigwam E, and read
for yourself a sample of this storyteller’s talent!
Then you decide for yourself if this woman is
disabled or not! I
beg to differ!
“Storie,
my personal blessing and thanks, for granting me this
opportunity!” “Please
know, from one mother to another, one writer to another,
your biography alone touches the hearts of readers many
roads away and moons from now!”
With
gratitude,
White Sparrow
