  CANCER – Cardinal Sign

Dear Cancer, well, you and I have been called many things. Have we not? Those around us say we’re hard to describe.  I beg to differ. I think we are the easiest to peg and the easiest to understand. That being said, I now have to contradict my first statement.

We are the easiest to figure out, if you happen to be another water sign, or have a healthy share of water in your own birth chart.  Let me say it this way.  We are the least boring of the zodiac.  Nobody reflects more emotional changes throughout a day then we do.  We are the most versatile emotional chameleons on mother earth.  We are born under the element of water and there is no other liquid that blends or grows things better than water. 

As Cancer born individuals, we are the most intuitive and emotional of the zodiac, unafraid to let our eyes weep in sadness and in joy.  We will clearly show, in public or private, what is taking place deep in our hearts.  Our facial expressions cannot be duplicated as sincerely or as often.  Cancer is capable of empowering that skill to be used to interpret and understand clearly the other signs of the zodiac.  How boring life would be, if we all walked around, day in and day out, with only one or two expressions on our face.  Ours is a gift of a thousand faces.  With a million chances to communicate to the world that we understand, but more than that.  We actually can sense and feel what the rest of world is going through.  Isn’t that what each and every one of us wishes for ourselves?  Don’t we all crave to be really and deeply understood?

Born under the sign of the crab, we are the survivors of the zodiac.  We deal and feel more deeply, and yet we manage to survive.  Cancer can never stay stuck in one emotional mode.  We not only deeply experience our own life, but all of those we come in direct contact with.  We don’t even have to know them to feel what they are feeling.  This is both our blessing and our curse!

Have others ever put you down, saying that you are too emotional or too sensitive?  Did you also notice that they never say this when it’s them that you are nurturing and comforting?  Don’t answer that question, save your breath!  Even if you did explain it to them, they will not be able to fully comprehend it.  Does their statement alone not strike a nerve all on it’s own.  How foolish would they feel, if they only knew that what is going through your thoughts is how uncaring and insensitive they are appearing to us.  We rarely ever tell them though, do we Cancer?

Most people don’t realize when you are born under the sign of Cancer, how strongly we can feel someone else’s joy and especially their pain.  Sometimes it can be so intense that we ourselves cannot distinguish our own feelings from someone else’s.  Point in case, our unexplainable connection to our children's needs. This is a big part of why Cancer has the reputation of being the epitome of motherhood.  It truly is like having a sixth sense. We are also known as the good Samaritans of the zodiac.  Cancer, do not let this criticism from others sway you from learning to trust and go with your own intuition, even if it doesn’t make complete sense at the time.  You are capable of knowing things without being able to explain them up front, even to yourself.  We are a mystery of tough and tender.  We rule the fourth house, the foundation of the zodiac and we are powerful and protective nurturers and survivors.    

Cancer individuals absorb feelings in the heart and chest region of the body.  I believe this to be our true home, where we translate the vibrations of what it is that we are picking up from the outside world. 

Cancer can comfort the world, one on one, or sometimes it seems we cover the whole world in with one silent prayer.  Even if you are a male born under this sign, you will have inherited many of these gifts.  Who better than a Cancer sign to fix a doll with a broken limb, a teenager with a broken heart, or a man or woman with a broken spirit?  It’s a rare person that can outdo a Cancer born to answer the call of comfort for a family member, a friend, or a complete stranger, physically and/or emotionally with such compassion.  Please hold this message tightly in your crab claw the next time someone spouts you are being too emotional.  Where would mother earth be, without the zodiacal mothers of the universe?    

Can we be referred to as overprotective?  Sometimes I think so.  However, not by us, by others.   Whether we are in our shy or confident mood, when it comes to being protective we are relentless.  We have the ability to shape and shift, from soft and understanding, to being protective as a bear in the bat of an eye and then back again.  We are very good at swallowing crow and we are equally good at spitting it back out.  This would not be a good time to try to calm us down, or edge us on.  When water builds to the point of flooding it has an amazing force behind it.  A wise person would not test these waters!

Cancer makes a home for all they allow in.  However, if we do not make eye contact with you, then you are definitely not invited in.  We have a cool to cold invisible barrier that protects us and ours, similar to a force field you cannot break through.  Equally, we have a magnetism that comes into this world with us as well.  Others are always ready and waiting to copy our words or methods.  To those who try to decode our mysterious lure, good luck!  It changes with every experience we have. 

Can we be clingy?  Absolutely, as much as I hate to admit it, yes we can.  However, it is only by those that we admire some quality in.  It is this quality or qualities that beckon to us like a bent finger to come closer and stay and not want to let go.  As Cancer, our motto is: The first to laugh, the first to cry, and the last to let go!  Trust me, this message causes us more grief than it ever will anyone else.  For those who break the heart of a Cancer, the experience will stay with them for a lifetime.  Why? Because once you have gotten close to a Cancer, we have the ability to make you feel as deeply as we do.  Whether you planned on learning it or not.  Many times, it takes an absence for others to realize just how deeply a Cancer has been carved into your soul.

Cancer has a memory of the past like no other!  Word for word, line for line, and touch for touch.  Be it good or bad!  I admit that I believe, as Cancer born, it might be wise for us to forewarn others of this before they get involved with us.  We are also sentimental old fools.  There is no getting around this.  Regarding jealousy...  well, Scorpio and Taurus cultivated it, but as Cancer, we can hold our own pretty well when we choose to.

Need physical or emotional shelter?  Call on us.  Need food, physical or emotional?  Call on us!  Need imagination and lots of colour?  Call on us.  Our approach to things is zigzag like the way a real crab approaches something.  Therefore, when life goes sideways on you, we are the experts to call on.  Original thinkers? Yes!  Carbon copies? No!

Here’s another piece of the puzzle I will share with you.  Nobody hugs you like a Cancer.  Nobody!  That’s because we can make you feel it!  In love, those who win our affection will always be placed ahead of us.  We practically invented the word sacrifice!  It’s a close toss between Taurus and Cancer on this issue.

Our deepest desire, is equal and mutual love!  Few take life more seriously, or feel it more deeply.  So, if you are not a deep thinker, or devoted friend or lover, you'd best move on.  It is a Cancer that quotes the phrase, “there’s no place like home”.  The heart is our true home, and therefore, you will soon know if you are welcome in it or not.

THE SHADOW SIDE OF CANCER:
(This is the side of any sign that I refer to as our evil twin).  The characteristics of our dark side, that needs to be worked on throughout our lives.
